The city of Barcelona
Since 4 November 2004 Barcelona has been the capital of the union of countries around the Mediterranean Sea. This union is made up of 43 countries. This makes Barcelona the meeting place for Europe with North Africa and Asia.
Barcelona is a world city where there's always something happening, day or night. You can stroll around for hours, go shopping and then have a rest at one of the many terraces on the Ramblas with a glass of wine and some delicious tapas.
Going out in Barcelona is not a problem, there is something for everyone.
Barcelona is a Mecca for cultural excursions. Architecture from the Middle Ages and from Gaudi to the ultra modern Torre Agbar of Jean Nouvel. It is overflowing with museums with work from Miro and Picasso, amongst others.
Barcelona is situated on the sea yet strangely enough this was not made use of until the 1992 Olympic Games. The yacht marina was even separated from the city by a high wall. Now the beaches are clean and the quality of the sea water is strictly regulated. Colourful parasols once again mark the coastline.
