The city of Arnhem
Arnhem is the capital of the Province of Gelderland and has approximately 150.000 inhabitants. The conurbation is actually much larger: the area Arnhem-Nijmegen has around 0,5 miljoen inhabitants and is the economic centre of the East Netherlands.
Arnhem is a lovely city with green areas which go from outside the city right into the centre. The presence of many well known international companies, high schools and an internationally renowned art school, ArtEZ, make it a dynamic city. It is famous for its shopping and entertainment: in 2007-2009 Arnhem was chosen as the best city centre in The Netherlands.
The Korenmarkt is in the same league for nightlife as other centres in The Netherlands.
Well known places of interest in Arnhem and her immediate surroundings include the Netherlands Open-air Museum, Burger's Zoo, the Kröller Müller Museum, the St. Eusebius church and the Museum for Modern Art. The forests of the Veluwe begin at the city limits.
